Like-for-like fan replacement: $150–$250
If you have a fan there now (or a light fixture with a junction box and wall switch), swapping in a new fan is straightforward — disconnect old, assemble new, mount, wire to existing supply, test. Usually 60–90 minutes.
New fan over a light fixture: $200–$350
Slightly more involved because fans are heavier and must hang from a fan-rated box — most standard light boxes aren't rated for one. We check the box first; if it needs a fan-rated brace, we tell you upfront and coordinate that upgrade with a licensed electrician before the fan goes up.
Where to draw the line on a handyman
We do fan swaps and replacements where wiring already exists. If you need a NEW circuit, a new switch, or any work on the panel, we refer you to a licensed electrician — that's not a handyman job, and any honest pro will tell you the same.
Other things that affect price
- High ceilings (over 10 ft): +$50–$100 for the time and ladder/scaffolding.
- Downrod and extension kits: If your room needs an extended downrod, the part runs $20–$60.
- Smart switches / remote integration: +$60–$90 to add a smart wall switch.
- Outdoor / damp-rated fans: Same install price, but the fan itself costs more.
