The part DIY gets wrong

Ceiling fans need a fan-rated box.

A ceiling fan can't hang from a standard light-fixture box — a spinning fan works its mounting loose over time. Fans must hang from a fan-rated box anchored to the structure, and checking (or upgrading) that box is the first thing we do on every install.

  • Box check first: we verify the existing box is fan-rated before anything is hung — most light boxes aren't. If yours needs a fan-rated brace box, we tell you upfront and coordinate that step with a licensed electrician before the fan goes up.
  • Like-for-like swaps: NJ's construction code treats swapping a fan or fixture on an existing switched, powered box as ordinary maintenance. New circuits, new switch runs, panel work — and box replacements — go to a licensed electrician, and we tell you before anything is booked.
  • High & vaulted ceilings: two-story foyers and cathedral family rooms need the right downrod length and the right ladders. We bring both.
  • Wobble & noise fixes: balancing kits, blade tightening, and worn-mount diagnosis on fans you already own.
  • Remote & receiver setup for fans that ship with smart or RF controls, paired and tested before we leave.

Seasonal tip: flip the direction switch — counterclockwise for summer breeze, clockwise on low in winter to push warm air back down. Most NJ homes never touch it and pay for it in heating bills.

Ceiling fan FAQs

Can you install a ceiling fan where a light fixture is now?

Often, yes — the wiring is usually already in place. The critical step is confirming the box is fan-rated, because most light boxes aren't. If yours isn't, we tell you before booking and coordinate the box upgrade with a licensed electrician; then we hang, wire, and balance the fan.

Do I need an electrician for a ceiling fan?

For a like-for-like swap on an existing powered box, NJ's construction code treats it as ordinary maintenance. If the room needs a new circuit, a new switch leg, panel work, or a box replacement, that's a licensed electrician — and we'll tell you honestly before anything is scheduled.

Can you handle a two-story foyer or vaulted ceiling?

Yes — high-ceiling installs are mostly about the right downrod and the right ladder. Send a photo through Snap & Send and we'll quote it firm, including the downrod if you need one.
